Three Rivers: Letter from college president Jones

To: College Community Members

From: Grace S. Jones

Date: October 29, 2003

Today Governor Rowland announced that Three Rivers Community College will be consolidated at Thames Campus, extending onto the property presently occupied by Norwich Technical High School. This plan, which was once recommended by the Board of Trustees, is referred to as "Thames II."

The Governor has given a definitive decision. His decision was announced to Chancellor Marc Herzog and Mayor Lathrop at an 11 o'clock meeting this morning. The Chancellor called immediately to convey the news.

For those of you who have endured the winding turns this journey has taken from the beginning, I want to say clearly that I believe that this will be the final word on the future of a consolidated Three Rivers campus. As I will make known to the public shortly, I am most anxious for the funding to be released in the next few months, and for us to be able to begin the process of providing Southeastern Connecticut with the top-quality community college facility it deserves.

The Board of Trustees will request funding for design and implementation at its November meeting. You are welcome to contact me with any comments or questions.
