Locate Three Rivers at former hospital

Editor:

Constant bickering over the site of the Three Rivers College is analogous to two dogs fighting over a bone or a game of ping-pong. Each group has a vested interest, some altruistic, others with a personal agenda.

The Norwich Hospital property belongs to us -- "the people" -- not to the state or the governor or the legislative body in Hartford. It is ours! It should not be sold to the highest bidder, because once it is sold it is gone -- gone forever!

The state has a poor track record of managing property that belongs to the people. Consider the Prudence Crandall Museum, the Harkness estate, the Mansfield training school, etc.

This property should not be sold to achieve a quick fix to the state budget deficit. Selling it is not an option. Lack of fiscal responsibility seems to be an inherent fault that is transmitted.

Remember, if this land is sold, it is gone, gone forever. Move the college to the Norwich Hospital site. It has good access and it is an area easily expanded if future needs arise.

Let's keep it in the hands of the people who are the real owners and make it known to the custodians that we would like to keep it. After all, it is ours!

Robert Congdon, first selectman and state representative, has it right. Let us listen to him.
