College ought to be located downtown

Editor:

I appreciate the support Gov. John Rowland has given to Norwich by understanding just how important the presence of Three Rivers Community College in our city is to us.

The college would be best served by locating it downtown because that would enable outreach to students who otherwise might not be able to attend.

I hope Rowland will do for us what he has done for Hartford and Bridgeport and support our efforts to put the college downtown. We know that locating community colleges in urban areas benefits everyone. Future students, who attend school part time, and need work experience, and the community at large will enjoy the cultural and life experiences the city offers. The governor has shown that he understands how to invest our tax dollars wisely, and this is his chance to change the outmoded and old fashioned thinking of some individuals, and help us get what is best for our city.
