for Completing the Application for Admission or Readmission

New Students

  1. Complete the Application for Admission or Readmission Form, enclose your $20 nonrefundable application fee (do not send cash), and return by mail to the  Admissions Office.  Indicate a degree or certificate program.  (See the section below for instructions regarding obtaining the Application for Admission or Readmission Form.)

  2. Submit evidence of high school completion: a transcript showing  graduation date, a copy of a diploma, or a copy of a GED certificate.  In order to be accepted into the curriculum of your choice or receive financial aid or veteran's benefits, you must provide proof of high school graduation or GED completion.

  3. Submit written documentation of measles/rubella immunization unless exempt.  Refer to the Measles/Rubella section below for specific information and procedures.

  4. Take the Basic Skills Computerized Placement Test or request an exemption.  All students applying by mail will receive information in the mail on how to schedule a placement test.  Students applying in person after December 16, 1999 will be given placement test scheduling information.

  5. Students transferring from other regionally accredited institutions of higher education must have official transcripts mailed directly from the other college to the Admissions Office, Three Rivers Community College, Mohegan Campus, Mahan Drive, Norwich, CT 06360.

Note:  Applicants who are taking only a few courses for personal interest and are paying themselves may choose a non-degree option and need not submit the documents required in 2 and 3 above.

Readmit Students

After an Absence of One or More Semesters:

  1. Complete the Application for Admission or Readmission Form and return by mail to the Admissions Office.  (See the section below for instructions regarding obtaining the Application for Admission or Readmission Form.)

  2. Submit written documentation of measles/rubella immunization unless previously submitted for those born after December 31, 1956.

  3. Provide a copy of your high school diploma or college transcript and take the Basic Skills Computerized Placement Test  if you have not been registered for classes at Three Rivers for longer than five years.

Notes:

Financial Aid

Applying for financial aid is an additional separate procedure from applying for admission to the College. Students should complete and mail the U.S. Department of Education's Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to the Federal Processor.  In addition, applicants must have an official acceptance from the Admissions Office to be eligible for Financial Aid.

Measles/Rubella Immunization

Connecticut state law requires that all enrolled full-time and part-Time students in a degree or certificate program or full-time enrolled non-degree students who were born after December 31, 1956, must have been inoculated against both Rubella (German Measles) and Measles after they turn one year of age, but after January 1, 1969. Students must also have received a second inoculation against Measles, at least one month after the first inoculation, but after 1980.

Each student must present official documentation of immunity prior to registration.  Any one of the following documents will be accepted:

    • The completed State Immunization Policy Form; (See the section below for instructions regarding obtaining the State Immunization Policy Form.)

    • A physician's certification of proper immunization;

    • A blood test certification of immunity to Measles and Rubella;

    • A physician's certification that immunization would be harmful to you; or

    • A signed statement that such immunization would be contrary to their religious beliefs.

Immunization Clinics

Three Rivers provides clinics to students in cooperation with the William W. Backus Hospital Community Services.  A $10 administrative fee is charged.  For information, contact the Admissions Office.

Types of Applicants and Specific Information

New Degree Or Certificate Applicants are those who have never attended Three Rivers Community College (formerly Mohegan Community College and Thames Valley State Technical College) and wish to be admitted to a degree or certificate program.

  1. Fill out the application form completely.

  2. Return the form directly to the Admissions Office.

  3. Attach a copy of your high school diploma or GED certificate.  (High school seniors should submit the completed application form to their guidance counselor and provide a copy of their high school diploma to the College after graduation.)

  4. Enclose the $20.00 non-refundable application fee (not required for those who have previously applied to any other Connecticut Community College).

Readmit Applicants are those who have not registered for classes for at least one semester at Three Rivers and wish to resume their studies.

  1. Fill out the application form completely.

  2. Return the form directly to the Admissions Office.  (Please note: you are not required to pay another application fee.)

Transfer Applicants are those who have previously attended other colleges or universities.

  1. Fill out the application form completely.

  2. Return the form directly to the Admissions Office.

  3. Attach a copy of your high school diploma or GED certificate if you are seeking a Three Rivers' degree or certificate.

  4. Have official transcripts mailed directly to the Admissions Office if you are transferring credits from another regionally accredited institution of higher education.  (Transfer students are encouraged to meet with an admissions counselor to determine how their previously earned credits may be applied to Three Rivers' degree or certificate programs of study.)

  5. Attach unofficial transcripts to the application form to receive exemption from placement testing.

  6. Enclose the $20.00 non-refundable application fee (not required for those who have previously applied to any other Connecticut Community College).

Non-Degree/Undeclared Major Applicants are those who do not wish to be admitted to a degree or certificate program at this time.  Non-degree students generally include adults pursuing credit courses for personal interest, summer students pursuing degrees elsewhere, and senior citizens.  However, the academic credits earned at Three Rivers Community College may be counted toward a degree or certificate program at a future time.  Please note: it is the non-degree student's responsibility to request a change from non-degree to degree status by completing the necessary forms available in all Student Services Offices.

Residency Requirement

To be entitled to the in-state tuition rates established for Connecticut residents, a student must be a Connecticut resident for a minimum of 12 months, with the exception of active duty military personnel and their families and those who meet the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) guidelines.  International students issued an I-20 are not entitled to the in-state tuition rates for Connecticut residents.
